Welcome to the very first edition of Shorelines & Side Roads, a new weekly collection celebrating the places, people and little moments that make Yarmouth County such a wonderful place to call home. Each week, I’ll gather a few local events, coastal outings and hidden gems worth discovering—whether you’ve lived here your entire life, recently arrived or are simply looking for a reason to explore somewhere new.

This weekend felt like the perfect place to begin. From waterfront shopping and community events to local food, fishing heritage and a little nostalgia, there are plenty of ways to get out, slow down and enjoy what’s happening close to home. Here are a few ideas to help you plan your weekend…

Saturday from 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

A free family event at the Mariners Centre dirt parking lot, where children can get an up-close look at the trucks, machinery and equipment that help keep our community moving.

🥣 Cookbook Food Sampling at the Yarmouth County Museum

Saturday from 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Sample recipes from the museum’s Butter the Size of an Egg cookbook—including lobster chowder, biscuits, squash bisque and chocolate cake. Your ticket also includes a copy of the cookbook!

🎣 Wedgeport Tuna Tournament & Festival

Saturday is the final day!
